DJI's two most popular consumer drones of 2025 serve different audiences. The Mini 4 Pro prioritises regulatory compliance and portability; the Air 3 prioritises versatility and camera performance. Here's how to choose.

The Key Difference: Weight and Regulations

The DJI Mini 4 Pro weighs 249g — just under the 250g threshold that triggers stricter regulations in most countries. The Air 3 weighs 720g, placing it in a higher regulatory category requiring pilot certification in Europe.

If you want to fly without bureaucracy in most locations, the Mini 4 Pro wins by default.

Camera Performance

Both drones use a 1/1.3" CMOS sensor for the main camera. The difference is the Air 3's dual-camera system: it adds a 3x telephoto lens with the same large sensor. This makes the Air 3 far more versatile for wildlife, sports, and cinematic shots that benefit from compression.

Video-wise, both shoot 4K/100fps (useful for slow motion) and support D-Log colour profiles for professional editing. The Air 3 edges out the Mini 4 Pro in dynamic range in our testing.

Flight Time

The Air 3 wins here: 46 minutes with the Plus battery vs 34 minutes for the Mini 4 Pro. For longer shoots, the extra flight time matters — especially in locations where relanding and recharging isn't practical.

Obstacle Avoidance

Both drones feature omnidirectional obstacle sensing. However, the Air 3's system is more advanced, with faster detection and more conservative avoidance behaviour. Both are appropriate for complex environments.

Price

The Mini 4 Pro is significantly cheaper, both for the drone itself and for the OcuSync 4 controller. Total costs including a decent controller land around €800 for the Mini 4 Pro and €1,100+ for the Air 3 Combo.
